New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.):
The Ministry of External Affairs dismissed allegations by Canada's intelligence agency that India is interfering in its internal matters. The MEA expressed satisfaction that the Canadian government is now acknowledging the presence of Khalistani extremist supporters on its soil, posing a threat not only to India but also to Canada's national security.
MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during Thursday's press briefing, We reject the claim of interference made against India in the report of Canada's intelligence agency (CSIS). India is a democratic country. Its policy does not involve meddling in the internal affairs of any other nation. He urged the Canadian government to address these issues on appropriate forums rather than exploiting them for political purposes.
The spokesperson noted that the intelligence report acknowledges Khalistani extremists abusing Canada's democratic freedoms and institutions for extremist propaganda and fundraising for violent activities. India has consistently urged Canada to take action against such anti-India elements and curb separatist activities including threats to Indian diplomats and leaders, glorification of violence, vandalism of religious sites, and so-called referendums.
