New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.):

Union Minister for Communications and Northeast Development Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the modern, state-of-the-art new post office of India Post at Nehru Place in the national capital today. This contemporary post office features bright, customer-friendly ambiance, open digital systems, modern seating arrangements, and improved workspaces for employees.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandrashekar Pemmasani attended Thursday's inauguration ceremony. These leaders described the SPA-designed building as a symbol of India Post's future.

Jyotiraditya Scindia stated India Post is not merely a service but the nation's lifeline, targeting transformation from cost center to profit center by 2029-30. Over the past two years, the department strengthened back-end systems, IT 2.0, extended working hours, and 24x7 services. The current focus is front-end transformation, with this model to be implemented across 25,091 post offices nationwide within the next 18 months.

He shared that just as his late father Madhavrao Scindia considered the railway family his own, he maintains a heartfelt connection with India's 4 lakh postal employees beyond mere administration. The modernization seeds sown through Project Arrow years ago are now blossoming into comprehensive transformation.

The Union Minister highlighted India Post's 1.65 lakh post offices serve every four villages on average. Where physical post offices don't exist, India Post Payments Bank reaches citizens digitally with 13 crore customers. Annual statistics include 7.5 crore parcel deliveries, 90 crore letter deliveries, 2.12 crore passports, 15 crore Aadhaar cards, 2.5 crore Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance policyholders, ₹2 lakh crore insurance investments managed, 40 crore Post Office Savings Bank accounts holding over ₹23 lakh crore deposits.

Scindia emphasized e-commerce and logistics as new pillars of India's economic strength, positioning India Post as transformation's cornerstone. A comprehensive postal logistics infrastructure scheme is forthcoming to develop world-class logistics networks. Department revenue grew from ₹13,218 crore to ₹15,296 crore in the past year. Currently a cost center, India Post aims to become profitable by 2029-30.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta posted on X that India Post evolved with technology for contemporary needs. This new post office will provide citizens faster, simpler, modern service experiences. Post offices now extend beyond mail services to become robust public service centers offering parcels, banking, insurance, Aadhaar, and passport services.
