New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.):

The Delhi government will establish a state-of-the-art medical college along with hostels for male and female students at Indira Gandhi Hospital complex in Dwarka. The total estimated cost of this project is ₹805.99 crore, recently approved in the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. The project targets completion by 2028.

The Chief Minister announced through a statement on Thursday that the project includes a medical college with separate hostels for boys and girls, faculty housing, and a modern academic block. This initiative represents a decisive step toward meeting Delhi's growing need for doctors and significantly improving healthcare service quality. The medical college will be developed to National Medical Commission (NMC) standards, ensuring 250 MBBS seats annually, with teaching commencing for 150 students initially.

The Chief Minister stated the project will be executed in phases. Phase one includes construction of the academic block, student hostels, and faculty housing across approximately 1,17,246 square meters, featuring a 34,000 square meter basement for parking and essential facilities. The multi-storied academic block will house classrooms, laboratories, and modern educational amenities. Hostels will accommodate large numbers of students, while faculty will receive modern, convenient housing. The Public Works Department (PWD) will handle construction, monitored by the Health & Family Welfare Department.

The Chief Minister directed officials to strictly ensure project quality and timeline adherence. Necessary equipment procurement, staff appointments, university affiliation, and other arrangements for college operations will follow in subsequent phases per NMC standards.
