
New Delhi, 07 May (H.S.): Arvind Bhalchandra Mardikar has been unanimously re-elected as Chairman of Hindusthan Samachar multilingual news agency for a second consecutive term.
The decision was taken during the Special Annual General Meeting of Hindusthan Samachar Cooperative Society Ltd. held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Senior journalist Padma Vibhushan Rambhadur Rai and noted social worker Ravindra Manilal Sanghvi were also unanimously re-elected as members of the Board of Directors.
The special annual general meeting, held at the Umang Auditorium of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi, also served as the election meeting for the constitution of the new Board of Directors and the election of the Chairman.
Nagpur-based Arvind Bhalchandra Mardikar was unanimously elected Chairman once again for the next three-year term. He was first elected unopposed to the post in 2023. Rambhadur Rai and Ravindra Manilal Sanghvi (Mumbai) were also re-elected to the Board for another three-year term.
Senior journalist and former media advisor to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Ashok Tandon, has been elected as a new member of the Board of Directors. Pareshkant Prem Manohar Mangalik (Mumbai) and Mangal Pratap Pandey (Ranchi), who were previously special invitees, were also elected to the Board. Indore-based businessman Kamal Kant Vashishtha was elected as a new member of the Board of Directors.
Advocate and Returning Officer Ajit Kumar conducted the election process in accordance with the rules.
Following his re-election, members of the Board congratulated Arvind Mardikar. Rambhadur Rai highlighted Mardikar’s achievements during his previous tenure and said he had always placed the organisation above all challenges. Ravindra Sanghvi said the future of Hindusthan Samachar was secure under Mardikar’s energetic leadership and that the organisation was steadily progressing.
Members of the Board also appreciated Mardikar’s role in strengthening the organisation financially, expanding its activities through various initiatives, and enhancing its credibility and reputation.
In his vote of thanks, Mardikar credited the achievements of the organisation to the dedication, hard work, and commitment of all employees and associates of Hindusthan Samachar.
Notably, Mardikar joined the Board of Directors in 2016 when the management of Hindusthan Samachar was handed over to noted industrialist and SIS founder R.K. Sinha. He was elected Vice-Chairman in 2018 and was entrusted with the responsibility of Executive Chairman during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Following the resignation of R.K. Sinha in April 2022, Mardikar was nominated Chairman for the remainder of the term and was later unanimously elected Chairman for the first time in May 2023.
