(HS): Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has resigned from her
Rajya Sabha membership following her election from Baramati constituency as
MLA. Sunatra Pawar elected in the by-poll held following death of DCM Ajit
Pawar in a place crash. His wife Sunetra Pawar was made DCM in his place.
Sunetra Pawar
was elected by a record margin of votes, as the voters elected her as a rich
tributes to their departed leader.
Following her
election Sunetra Pawar visited Delhi to tender her resignation as Rajya Sabha
member. She is expected to meet senior BJP leaders during her Delhi visit. She
was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha on 18 June 2024. Ajit Pawar, who was DCM
and the National President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) group
died in a plane crash on January 28. His wife Sunetra Pawar was made President
of the party and DCM in his place.
As per the
existing law any person cannot be member of two houses at the same time,
Sunetra Pawar resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha. She handed over her
resignation to Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan.
She is expected
to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National
President Nitin Nabin during her Delhi visit. Discussion about nomination in
the place which has fallen vacant due to her resignation is likely to be held.
