New Delhi, 06 May (H.S.):

The Central Government has appointed Shashi Shekhar Vempati as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shashi Shekhar Vempati will assume charge of this position for a three-year term.

This appointment follows the resignation of Prasoon Joshi from the post. Prasoon Joshi was recently appointed as Chairman of Prasar Bharati, prompting him to step down as CBFC head.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati brings extensive experience in media, broadcasting, and public communication. He previously served as the CEO of Prasar Bharati.

The Central Board of Film Certification, commonly known as the Censor Board, is a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. Established under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, it certifies films, advertisements, and television content for public exhibition. It is the primary agency responsible for certifying films in the country, determining their appropriate release category.
