Bhubaneswar, 06 May (H.S.): Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik has written to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, expressing deep concern over a shocking murder incident reported from Kharida village under Hinjili constituency.

In his letter dated May 6, Patnaik described the incident as a “heinous crime,” referring to reports that a pregnant woman was brutally killed in front of her three-year-old daughter. The alleged perpetrator is said to be the brother of the victim’s partner. According to the letter, the woman had been staging a dharna outside her partner’s residence, seeking justice, when the attack took place.

Patnaik highlighted that the disturbing visuals of the young child crying beside her mother’s body have deeply shaken public conscience across the state. He called the incident not only tragic but also a serious reflection on law and order.

Urging immediate action, Patnaik requested the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, to direct police authorities to promptly arrest all accused persons. He further appealed for comprehensive support for the victim’s daughter, including state care, compensation, and rehabilitation.

The Opposition leader also raised concerns over alleged lapses in preventive policing. He sought an inquiry into why adequate action was not taken by authorities despite the victim reportedly staging a protest prior to the incident.

Patnaik concluded his letter by requesting the Chief Minister’s personal intervention to ensure that the perpetrators are punished in accordance with the law and that such incidents do not recur in the future.
