India and Japan signed an agreement on Wednesday to further strengthen cooperation in science and technology. Japan's Minister of Science and Technology Policy, Onoda Kimi, met with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh accompanied by a high-level delegation.
During the meeting, both countries formalized an agreement for collaboration in health and medical devices. This pact was signed between the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development, the Indian Council of Medical Research, and the Department of Science and Technology.
Additionally, a Letter of Intent was exchanged between Japan's Cabinet Office and the Department of Science and Technology to enhance cooperation in quantum science and technology.
On this occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Japan in 2025, the India-Japan science and technology partnership has entered a new phase.
He remarked that Japan possesses advanced technology, while India boasts a vast pool of young and skilled human resources. Together, they can rapidly innovate in emerging technologies.
Japan's Science and Technology Policy Minister Onoda Kimi commended India's rapid economic growth and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. She particularly highlighted the innovative spirit and learning capacity from failures among Indian youth.
The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation in areas such as the National Quantum Mission, quantum computing, secure communications, and health research. Emphasis was also placed on strengthening partnerships between research, industry, and startups.
Both nations agreed to expand research collaboration, joint projects, and scientist exchanges. The objective is to swiftly develop new technologies and make them accessible to the general public.
