- Demands Relief for Poor from Soaring Inflation and Heatwave
New Delhi, May 6 (H.S.): Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expressed satisfaction on Wednesday over the change of power in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, as well as the mandate received by the current governments in Puducherry and Assam. At the same time, it described the incidents of post-election violence in West Bengal as condemnable.
Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy President Malik Mohtasin Khan and Engineer Salim Ahmad stated at a press conference at the headquarters in New Delhi that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has received the people's mandate by defeating the Trinamool Congress (TMC) there, and a new government will be formed in the coming days. The attacks, vandalism, and communal sloganeering on TMC offices, leaders' homes, and offices by BJP supporters are heart-wrenching. They also raised questions on the Election Commission's decision to delete lakhs of names under SIR and deprive people of voting rights. They said depriving such a large number of people from voting in the elections was not right.
Raising questions on the Election Commission's role, they stated that irregularities and rigging are suspected in the West Bengal elections. A similar atmosphere was seen during election campaigning in Assam, where political parties' leaders used hateful language and words in rallies to spread hatred, but the Election Commission remained completely silent. Here too, a particular community was targeted during election campaigns and misleading propaganda was carried out against them.
In addition
Jamaat-e-Islami leaders also expressed concern over the skyrocketing inflation in the country. They said fuel, petrol, and diesel shortages are being witnessed worldwide during the Iran-America-Israel war, and its impact has been felt in India too. The skyrocketing increase in commercial and small cylinder prices has further fueled inflation. They expressed apprehension that preparations are now being made to raise petrol and diesel prices after the state elections, which will further increase inflation in our country.
They demanded that the Central Government provide relief from inflation keeping in mind the poor, economically backward, and middle class, and stressed that there is an urgent need to give such people relief from inflation. Jamaat leaders also expressed concern over the rising heatwave incidents in the country. They said workers and weaker sections are being most affected by it.
The government should make proper arrangements for them and announce changes in workers' timetables so they can be protected from working in excessive heat.
