Guwahati, 04 May (HS). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured victory on 22 seats and is leading in 60 others in the ongoing counting of votes for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections 2026, according to official data released till 5 PM on Monday.

As per the Election Commission figures, trends have emerged for all 126 constituencies, while results for 25 seats have been declared so far. With 22 confirmed wins and leads in 60 seats, the BJP’s tally is projected to reach around 82 seats. Its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has won one seat and is leading in eight others, taking its total to nine seats. Another ally, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), has also secured one seat and is ahead in nine constituencies, indicating a total of 10 seats.

On the opposition front, the Congress is leading in 19 seats. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has won one seat and is leading in another. Raijor Dal is ahead in two seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and an independent candidate are leading in one seat each.

Notably, BJP candidates have registered victories with significant margins in several constituencies. The trends indicate a strong performance by the BJP, while the Congress appears to have struggled to pose a substantial challenge. Observers suggest that AIUDF’s poor performance may be attributed to a shift of its vote base towards the Congress in several areas.------------
