Guwahati, 04 May (HS): Counting of votes for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections began at 8 a.m. across all 126 constituencies, with early trends now available for all seats. According to the initial figures, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 80 seats, while along with its allies, the NDA has surged ahead in around 100 constituencies.

All major BJP leaders are maintaining a lead in the early rounds. The party is also ahead in all five assembly seats in the state capital Guwahati, indicating a strong urban performance.

The main opposition Congress is leading in 24 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is ahead in 2 seats and Raijor Dal in 1 seat. Among BJP allies, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is leading in 10 seats and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in another 10.

In Jorhat constituency, counting of 6 out of 14 rounds has been completed. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and MP Gaurav Gogoi is trailing BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami by 9,285 votes. Goswami has secured 27,903 votes, while Gogoi has received 18,618 votes so far.

In Jalukbari constituency, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is in the fray. Out of the total 18 rounds, three rounds have been completed, with the Chief Minister polling 18,805 votes. He is currently leading by 11,939 votes over his nearest Congress rival, Bidisha Neog.-----------
