year on May 30, CM Yogi comes to public venues to commemorate Goa's distinct
culture, history, and continuous growth.
UP
CM opined in a post on X, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the
residents of Goa on the Foundation Day of the Goa state, enriched with cultural
heritage and natural beauty. It is our wish that this state, renowned for
tourism, achieves new heights of development and prosperity under the
illustrious guidance of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiji and the

The
Goan independence movement was a long-running fight against Portuguese colonial
control that culminated on December 19, 1961, when the Indian Armed Forces
liberated Goa, Daman, and Diu as part of Operation Vijay. The movement included
both nonviolent rallies and armed revolts, with people like as Ram Manohar
Lohia, Madhu Limaye, and Mohan Ranade among others playing important roles.
Sardar
Patel's efforts resulted in the unification of the princely kingdoms in 1947;
however Goa did not become part of India. This was due to the Portuguese
colonial control, which began in 1510. Even after independence, when Portugal
would not give up its sovereignty over Goa and Daman and Diu despite India’s
request, India staged a military incursion there on 18-19 December 1961 under
incursion Vijay.
Within
36 hours, Goa became a part of India. As a result, Goa Liberation Day is
observed annually on December 19th. On May 30, 1987, Goa was declared a
distinct state, but Daman and Diu remained union territories.
