Three Youths Detained in Assam’s Tinsukia Over Alleged Bid to Join ULFA-I

Tinsukia (Assam), 29 May (HS): Assam Police on Friday detained three youths from Tinsukia district on allegations of attempting to join the banned insurgent outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

According to police sources, the detained individuals have been identified as Bijoy Moran (28) of No. 2 Naloni Gaon, Antu Moran (34) of No. 2 Tekeri Gaon and Newton Moran (22), also a resident of No. 2 Tekeri Gaon under the Pengeri Police Station area.

The operation was carried out following specific intelligence inputs suggesting that the trio was planning to cross over and establish contact with the militant organisation. Acting on the information, police personnel launched a targeted operation and apprehended them before any alleged movement could take place.

Officials said the detainees are currently being questioned to ascertain possible links, recruitment channels and any network involved in facilitating such activities in the region.

The development comes amid intensified security measures by Assam Police and other security agencies across Upper Assam districts bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Security forces have recently increased surveillance and monitoring efforts to curb suspected militant recruitment, movement of over-ground workers (OGWs) and logistical support networks linked to banned outfits.

Police officials stated that further investigation into the matter is underway.
