Kolkata, 29 May (H.S.): Former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose has not received any immediate relief from the Calcutta High Court in connection with his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The High Court on Friday heard a petition challenging his arrest, but declined to grant any interim relief at this stage.

The judge observed that the matter would be heard by the regular bench and clarified that no interim protection could be granted immediately.

The court has directed the Enforcement Directorate to submit a detailed report regarding the arrest. At the same time, Sujit Bose has also been asked to file an affidavit in the matter. During the hearing, senior counsel appearing on behalf of Bose argued that his client was challenging the legality of the arrest and maintained that he was not an accused in the case.

It may be recalled that the Enforcement Directorate arrested Sujit Bose on May 11. He is currently in judicial custody. From jail, Bose moved the High Court challenging his arrest. On Thursday, his lawyer had mentioned the matter before the court, following which permission was granted to file the petition.

During the investigation into the alleged school recruitment corruption case, Sujit Bose has been accused of recommending names for illegal appointments in the South Dum Dum Municipality. According to ED sources, the alleged list contains the names of nearly 150 job aspirants.

The central agency suspects that money generated through the alleged corruption was deposited in multiple bank accounts. As a result, investigators are examining documents and transaction records linked to several bank accounts as part of the ongoing probe.
