(HS): The Maha-Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has finalised seat sharing for the coming
elections to the Legislative Council. Out of the 17 seats from the Local
Government Authorities, including a by-poll from Nagpur, seat sharing for 15
seats has been finalised.
The Indian
National Congress will contest eight seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) on four and
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) will field its candidates in three
constituencies. Discussion about the remaining two seats was in progress.
The leaders of
the MVA partners was held at Yeshvantrao Chavan Hall in Mumbai. Congress
Regional Unit President Harshavardhan Sapkal said that decision on the
remaining two seats – Nanded and Nashik, will be taken soon. All the three
major partners have claimed to contest these two seats.
Congress will
contest Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Bhandara-Gondi, Amravati, Ahilyanagar, Solapur,
Dharashiv-Beed-Latur and by-poll in Nagpur. UBT Sena has decided to contest
Ratnagiri, Jalgaon, Parbhani-Hingoli and Chhatrapti Sambhajinagar. NCP (SP)
will field its candidates for Pune, Thane and Satara-Sangli seats. The decision
also indicates unity among the MVA partners.
