Guwahati, 29 May (HS): The Gauhati High Court is scheduled to deliver its order on Friday on the bail plea of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the prime accused in the high-profile Zubeen murder case. The matter will come up before the court of Justice Mitali Thakuria.
The hearing on Mahanta’s bail petition has already taken place twice earlier, with today marking the third round of proceedings in the case. During the previous hearing held on May 22, defence counsel Pran Bora argued before the court that the death of Zubeen was the result of an accidental incident and not a pre-planned murder.
In today’s proceedings, the prosecution is expected to strongly oppose the bail plea and place its arguments before the court. Sources said the state’s legal team may also be joined by Assam Advocate General Devajit Lon Saikia during the hearing.
The case has drawn significant public attention across Assam, with today’s ruling on the bail application being closely watched.-----------
