Bengaluru, 28 May (H.S.) :
Eshwari Pictures, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru has been a harbinger of quality cinema making in Kannada film industry for over five decades now. Established by N . Veeraswamy and his friends the enterprise collaborated with a host of distinguished Kannada film fraternity members .
Eshwari pictures was mainly involved in the back end operations like film financing, film distribution and exhibition till the year 1987.
A new Dimension was added to the enterprise through the movie, Prema Loka in the summer of 1987. It was a bilingual in Kannada and Tamil versions. Prema Loka was a block buster that scripted a new Perspective and chapter in Kannada film industry.
Prema Loka remains to be historical in Kannada Cinema on three counts .
The first irst point is the fact that, Veeraswamy's son V. Ravichandran made his debut in Kannada film industry as a lead actor and film Director. A rookie who never went to any film making school or institute, V Ravichandran's Premaloka mesmerized Kannada cine lovers. Cine lovers who loved to watch Hollywood star John Travolta and Olivia Newton John's Grease 2 / Saturday Night Fever flocked to watch Prema Loka . And they took pride in it . It was a swag to watch Prema Loka. Above all , Prema Loka was Kannadiga's pride.
The second point that defined the history was the music of the movie . Premaloka featured eleven song tracks. Music director Gangaraju aka Hamsalekha etched his name in the annals of Kannada cinema. Hamsalekha doubled his role as an exceptional lyrics, and song writer.
The third milestone of Premaloka is the exploration/ expansion of the film music market . Premaloka's music audio rights redefined the market dynamics of audio cassete industry.Prema Loka made Manohar Naidu, Velu and Lahari Audio a house hold name in South India.
The audio cassette rights were sold by Eshwari Pictures to Lahari Audio for an astronomical amount of Rs 1.5 Lakhs. And the company sold over 37 lakh Cassetes, a record unbroken till date .
Since then the combination of V. Ravichandran and Hamsalekha enriched the Kannada film music industry with melliiflous songs .
Ramachari, Ranadheera movies positioned Ravichandran as the original show man. His collaboration with Telugu film mega star Chiranjeevi in Sipayi became the talk of the Indian film industry. Puttananja yet another block buster reaffirmed the fact that V Ravichandran's status as a man with Midas touch.
Hindi Film director Surchand Bhartajya had confessed at one of the Screen Videocon film awards at Leela Kempenski , Mumbai by saying ....Ravi, I watch your movies to get inspired to make my movies . Your scale and grandeur is marvellous. And I make it a point to watch all your movies.
As a matter of fact , in one of the scenes in Salman Khan starrer Maine pyar Kiya the ace director did adopt a style of presentation from Premaloka.
.....Ravi , I am in awe of your style of film making and technical expertise you adopt in your films. The musical scores of your movies is fabulous and I can't help falling in love with your work Hindi Film super star Anil Kapoor had remarked in the same event .
No wonder, the magic of V Ravichandran and Music Director Hamsalekha is the stuff of folk lore in Kannada Cinema even this day .
And the fact that the stalwarts are teaming up for a brand new experiment of taking their world of music to live concerts is good news to the legion of fans.
The maiden concert Crazy- Bramha featuring V. Ravichandran and Hamsalekha is scheduled at JK Grand Arena Kengeri Bengaluru on Saturday 30th May 2026.
