28 May (HS): A man has been detained in Meerut district after reportedly
killing his younger brother over a land dispute and burying the body in a field,
authorities said on Thursday. According to reports, the incident came to light
after the deceased's maternal aunt filed a complaint. Ankur (30), a Mahmoodpur
Sikheda village inhabitant, went missing on May 5, according to authorities. On
Thursday morning, his aunt, Jagbeeri, went to the police station and stated
that she suspected Ankur's elder brother, Kapil, of murdering him. Police
summoned Kapil for interrogation after receiving a complaint.
According
to authorities, during interrogation, the accused admitted to fatally shooting
Ankur on May 5 as a result of a land dispute. He also informed police that
after killing Ankur, he dug a trench in the field and buried his body. Police
and a forensic team have arrived at the scene to recover the corpse and collect
evidence, according to ASP (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar. Police
have detained Kapil after filing a murder charge, according to the officer, who
added that all elements of the case are under investigation.
