
North 24 Parganas, 28 May (H.S.): In a major police action following the Assembly elections, Prasenjit Saha, the Trinamool Congress block president of Khardah and deputy head of Bandipur Panchayat, was arrested on Thursday over allegations of illegal land filling, running a land syndicate and extortion.
According to police sources, Saha has been accused of illegally filling wetlands near the Kalyani Expressway, operating a land sale syndicate and involvement in multiple extortion-related activities in the area. Local residents had allegedly been raising complaints against him for a long time over several illegal activities.
Sources said central forces had also conducted searches for him on the day of the Assembly elections. His residence was reportedly surrounded and searched for several hours, but he managed to evade arrest at that time by going into hiding.
After continuous police efforts, the influential TMC leader was finally arrested on Thursday. Police are currently investigating the case and examining other allegations linked to the matter.
