Kolkata, 28 May (H.S.):

Dr. Shantanu Sen, senior leader of the Trinamool Congress and former Rajya Sabha MP, has resigned from the post of the party’s national spokesperson on Thursday. In his resignation letter addressed to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, he explained the reasons behind his decision.

In the letter, Dr. Sen stated that despite disagreements on several issues during difficult times, he had always defended the party publicly and fought on behalf of the party on many controversial matters. He said that ordinary people had often appreciated his efforts.

However, expressing concern over the present situation, he mentioned that people in Bengal had rejected the party because of various unethical activities and corruption allegations, including the RG Kar case, the Abhaya case, and the cash-for-jobs scam.

Dr. Sen further wrote that respecting the public mandate, his conscience no longer allowed him to continue in the role of national spokesperson. Therefore, he decided to resign from the position of the party’s All India spokesperson.
