Kabir Nagar, 28 May (HS): Police in Sant Kabir Nagar district detained three
persons on Thursday in connection with a 29-year-old woman's suspected dowry
killing, including her husband, according to an official. Maya Yadav, wife of
Ramesh Chand Yadav, was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances on May
27 at Parsadipur village, Mahuli Police Station, after sustaining burn
injuries. Following the event, police filed a FIR and conducted an
investigation. According to the lawsuit, Maya married Ramesh Yadav about six
years ago and was reportedly pressured by her husband and his family over extra
dowry demands.
Maya's
husband, his brother Gorakhnath Yadav, and his wife Kanti Devi reportedly
burned her to death on May 27 when her family failed to deliver the dowry,
according to the FIR. According to the ASP, the three suspects were apprehended
and taken into judicial custody within hours of the FIR being filed. According
to authorities, the situation is being investigated further.
