Washington, May 23 (H.S.): Tulsi Gabbard has resigned from her position as the head of America’s intelligence agencies. During his second term, U.S. President Donald Trump had appointed Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence, the post responsible for overseeing the country’s 18 intelligence agencies.

President Trump has accepted Gabbard’s resignation and appointed her deputy assistant director, Aaron Lucas, as the acting director. Tulsi Gabbard will officially demit office on June 30.

In her resignation letter addressed to President Trump, Gabbard cited her husband Abraham’s illness as the reason for stepping down. She wrote that her husband is suffering from a rare form of bone cancer and that she wishes to devote more time to caring for him.

President Trump praised Gabbard’s tenure in a social media post, stating that “she will be missed.”

In her resignation letter, Gabbard did not mention any disagreement with the Trump administration’s policies regarding the Iran conflict or any other issue. However, political circles had widely speculated that she opposed the war launched against Iran over its nuclear programme.

Over the past several months, several ministers and senior officials in the Trump administration have resigned from their positions.
