New Delhi, May 23 (H.S.): Public sector oil and gas marketing companies on Saturday once again increased the prices of petrol and diesel across the country. Petrol prices have been raised by 87 paise per litre, while diesel has become costlier by up to 91 paise per litre. In addition, the price of CNG in the Delhi-NCR region has been increased by ₹1 per kilogram. The revised rates have come into effect from today.
According to the website of Indian Oil Corporation, the price of petrol in New Delhi has increased by 87 paise per litre to ₹99.51 per litre. Similarly, diesel prices have risen by 91 paise, taking the retail rate to ₹92.49 per litre.
This marks the third increase in petrol and diesel prices within the last nine days. Since May 15, fuel prices have now been revised upward three times. State-run oil marketing companies have gradually begun passing on the burden of rising global energy costs to consumers amid the continuing crisis in West Asia.
On May 15, fuel prices were increased by ₹3 per litre. This was followed by another hike on May 19, when petrol and diesel prices were raised by 90 paise per litre. Overall, fuel prices have risen by nearly ₹5 per litre during this period.
Meanwhile, CNG prices in the Delhi-NCR region have also gone up by ₹1 per kilogram. Following the latest revision, CNG in Delhi will now cost ₹81.09 per kilogram.
This is the third increase in CNG prices over the past 10 days. Earlier, the government had raised CNG prices by ₹2 on May 15 and by another ₹1 on May 18.
