
New Delhi, May 23 (H.S.): The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged abduction, gangrape, and forced religious conversion of a Dalit woman in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner, directing immediate and stringent action in the matter. The Commission has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.
According to the victim’s allegations, she was held captive for several days and was repeatedly sexually assaulted by multiple individuals.
The Commission has sought detailed information regarding the registration of the FIR, the arrest of the accused persons, medical and forensic examinations, recording of the victim’s statement before a magistrate, and measures taken for her protection and rehabilitation.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said that strict legal action must be taken in cases involving sexual violence against women, caste-based atrocities, and forced religious coercion.
The Commission has also asked for details regarding the legal provisions invoked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Additionally, the NCW has sought information on the steps taken to ensure the victim’s safety, privacy, counselling, and rehabilitation, along with confirmation of the arrests of all accused persons and the completion of medical and forensic procedures.
The Commission has directed the authorities to submit a detailed Action Taken Report within seven days.
