New Delhi, May 23 (H.S.): United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and extended an invitation from President Donald Trump for him to visit the White House in the near future.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the progress of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, along with a range of regional and international issues. Rubio briefed the Prime Minister on developments in bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including defence, strategic technology, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people ties.

Rubio also shared the United States’ perspective on various regional and global matters, including the evolving situation in West Asia.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for peace initiatives and stressed that all conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He also requested Rubio to convey his greetings to President Trump and expressed his expectation of continued engagement and communication with him in the future.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi posted on social media platform X that he was pleased to welcome Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He said the discussions were productive and focused on the continued advancement of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, as well as issues concerning regional and global peace and security.

Modi further stated that India and the United States would continue working together in the broader global interest.

Meanwhile, United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, in a post on X, said it was a pleasure to join Marco Rubio during the meeting with Prime Minister Modi. He noted that the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the fields of security, trade, and critical technologies — areas that reinforce both nations and support a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Gor added that India continues to remain an important strategic partner of the United States.

In another post, Sergio Gor confirmed that Secretary of State Rubio had formally extended President Trump’s invitation to Prime Minister Modi for a visit to the White House in the near future.
