New Delhi, May 19 (H.S.):The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of a case in Jodhpur involving the alleged prolonged gang rape, blackmail, sexual exploitation, and subsequent suicide of two sisters.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Rajasthan, directing them to ensure immediate, impartial, and time-bound action in the matter.

The Commission has sought a detailed Action Taken Report within seven days.

It has also requested information regarding the legal provisions invoked in the FIR, the arrest status of all accused persons, the current stage of investigation, digital and forensic evidence collected, allegations of prior police inaction despite complaints made by the victims’ family, and accountability of the concerned officials.

In addition, the Commission has sought details about the legal aid, psychological counselling, security, and rehabilitation support being provided to the victims’ family, as well as measures being taken to ensure prompt action in future cases involving sexual crimes and blackmail against women.

Condemning the incident strongly, Vijaya Rahatkar stated that such heinous crimes against women would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
