Kolkata, 19 May (H.S.) : The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police, in a joint operation with Bihar Police, has busted an illegal mini gun factory operating in Bihar’s Purnia district. The STF, in a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, said the operation was conducted on the evening of May 18 following a specific intelligence input.
A joint team comprising STF Kolkata Police, STF Bihar, and Damdaha Police Station personnel carried out a raid at the residence of Mithu Kumar and Gabbar Rai in Haripur village of Purnia district. During the search, investigators discovered that an underground secret chamber had been constructed beneath a paper plate manufacturing unit operating on the ground floor, where illegal firearms were being manufactured.
According to police officials, the underground chamber had been specially designed to prevent the sound generated during the manufacturing of weapons from escaping outside.
During the raid, four accused persons were arrested from the spot. They were identified as Mithu Kumar, Gabbar Rai, Mohammad Anwar Khan, and Mohammad Aftab Alam alias Ladan. Later, the alleged kingpin of the racket, Suraj Kumar, was also arrested from Bihar’s Munger district.
Police recovered five semi-finished pistols, five pistol bodies, four pistol grips, one lathe machine, one milling machine, one drilling machine, and one grinding and polishing machine from the factory premises. A large quantity of raw materials and tools used for manufacturing illegal firearms were also seized.
The STF stated that a case has been registered at Damdaha Police Station under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further legal proceedings are underway.
