New Delhi, 18 May (H.S.): The controversy surrounding the alleged misconduct involving a judge and a lawyer at Rohini Court has intensified significantly. While lawyers across Delhi have launched a strike in protest against the incident, the association representing judicial officers has also adopted a firm stance on the matter.

The Delhi Judicial Service Association (DJCA) has criticised the recording and circulation of the video related to the incident at Rohini Court and has demanded that the footage be removed from all platforms. The association also expressed solidarity with Rohini Court Judge Rakesh Kumar Pancham.

In an official notice signed by DJCA Secretary Devender Kumar Jangla and President Shefali Barnala Tandon, the association strongly condemned the incident. The notice expressed concern over both the occurrence inside the courtroom and the recording of the proceedings, terming it an attack on the dignity and sanctity of the judiciary.

The association also criticised the boycott of judicial work by lawyers in Delhi. According to the DJCA, the strike and abstention from court proceedings by advocates amount to a violation of the judgments and guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court of India.

The Delhi Judicial Service Association further stated that the boycott of judicial work has effectively held litigants and the general public hostage and could adversely impact the justice delivery system. The notice also observed that the conduct of certain lawyers tends to intimidate judges, which, it said, is unacceptable in a democratic nation governed by the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi has called for a strike on Monday in protest against the incident.

Subsequently, the Delhi High Court transferred Judge Rakesh Kumar Pancham and attached him to the office of the Director of the Delhi Judicial Academy.
