New Delhi, 18 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow on Monday morning over the tragic accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, and announced compensation for the victims' families. The accident occurred when a truck and a van collided, killing at least eight people.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Speaking on X, the Prime Minister said, I was deeply saddened to hear about the accident in Lakhimpur Kheri. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced that ₹2 lakh each will be provided as ex-gratia relief from the National Relief Fund to the families of the deceased. Those injured in the accident will receive financial assistance of ₹50,000 each.

It is worth noting that on Monday morning, a high-speed head-on collision occurred between a truck and a van on the Lakhimpur-Bahraich Highway. In this heartbreaking incident, eight people died on the spot, and two others are reported to be seriously injured. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
