New Delhi, 18 May (H.S.):

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Deepak Singla, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, in connection with a bank fraud case involving more than ₹100 crore. The action was taken during an investigation into an alleged financial scam linked to Mahesh Timber Private Limited.

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal reacted to the arrest on the social media platform X, alleging political retaliation.

Kejriwal stated that Deepak Singla had not been arrested for any wrongdoing, but because he was working against the Bharatiya Janata Party and had refused to join the party.

“Deepak is courageous and is fighting for the country,” Kejriwal wrote.

Earlier on Monday morning, ED teams conducted raids at seven different locations across Delhi and Goa. Based on evidence recovered during the searches, Singla was taken into custody.

The case is also reportedly linked to Sanjeev Arora, a Punjab minister who had already been arrested in connection with the investigation.
