
Imphal, 16 May (HS): In the wake of the tragic ambush at Zero Point along the Kotlen-Kotzim Inter Village Road in Kangpokpi district, in which three civilians lost their lives and four others sustained injuries on May 13, authorities have intensified efforts to restore normalcy and ensure public safety in the region, Manipur police informed on Saturday.
Following the incident, several civilians belonging to different communities were reportedly detained near Leilon Vaiphei and Sapormeina villages in Kangpokpi district as well as in Senapati district by unidentified groups, creating tension and concern among local residents.
Through coordinated efforts by the civil administration, Security Forces, community leaders and various civil society organisations (CSOs), a total of 28 detained civilians have been released safely so far. Officials stated that continuous operations and negotiations are underway to secure the safe release of the remaining individuals still in detention.
The Administration has appealed to the public to maintain calm and extend full cooperation to the Security Forces and authorities in preserving peace and facilitating the safe return of all remaining civilians.-----------
