New Delhi, 14 May (H.S.): Amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, wholesale inflation has risen following retail inflation. Due to a sharp surge in fuel, electricity, and crude oil prices, the wholesale inflation rate climbed to 8.30% in April, up from 3.88% in March.

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry revealed in data released on Thursday that inflation in the fuel and electricity category reached 24.71% in April, compared to 1.05% in March. Meanwhile, crude oil inflation stood at 88.06% in April, versus 51.5% in March. According to the data, food articles inflation was 1.98% in April, slightly up from 1.90% in March. Non-food articles inflation rose to 12.18% in April, from 11.5% in the previous month.

The ministry stated that inflation in April 2026 was higher due to price increases in mineral oils, crude oil & natural gas, basic metals, other manufacturing, and non-food articles. In the fuel and electricity category, LPG inflation was 10.92% in April.

However, despite a 50% rise in global crude oil prices, the central government has so far kept petrol and domestic cooking gas prices stable to shield consumers from the impact of price hikes. That said, prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been increased.
