Dhaka, May 10 (H.S.): Bangladesh's High Court in Chattogram (formerly Chittagong) has refused to grant bail to Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the Alif murder case. The bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher rejected his earlier order on the bail petition. The bench will hear his bail petitions in four other cases on Monday.

According to a Dhaka Tribune report, Advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya represented Chinmoy Das, while Deputy Attorney General Shaila Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md. Alamin represented the government. Previously, on April 30, the High Court had granted him bail in a sedition case linked to the alleged disrespect of the national flag.

On October 31, 2024, Firoz Khan, general secretary of Chandgaon Mohada Ward unit, filed a sedition case against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 19 others at Kotwali Police Station. In this case, Chinmoy Das and several others were arrested on November 25 of the same year.

Following the rejection of his bail petition in the sedition case on November 26, 2025, clashes erupted between his supporters' protest and others in the Chattogram court premises. During this violence, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was beaten to death with sharp weapons. On September 1, 2025, the High Court issued an order questioning why Chinmoy Das should not be granted bail in five separate cases, including the murder case.

A court in Chattogram had granted Brahmachari bail in one case on April 17 this year. Chinmoy Brahmachari has been behind bars since November 2024 and is lodged in Chattogram Jail. The case in which he was granted bail was filed in 2023 by BNP leader and former minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin. In his complaint, he accused Brahmachari of grabbing land, threatening, and assaulting in the Mekhla area of Hathazari upazila. Chinmoy Krishna Das and five others were named as accused in this case.

A case of the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif is also pending against Brahmachari, in which the High Court denied him bail today. Additionally, at least six other cases against him are under consideration. On July 1, 2025, police submitted a chargesheet in court against Chinmoy and 38 others in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.

Earlier, on January 2, the court had rejected the bail petition of Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was taken into custody by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:30 PM on November 25.

Protests erupted in Dhaka's Shahbag and Chattogram for several days against Brahmachari's arrest.

The approximately 40-year-old Hindu saint faces serious sedition charges. Originally from Satkania upazila of Chattogram, Chinmoy has been the chief of Pundrik Dham in Hathazari, Chattogram, since 2007. He is the founder of Sanatan Jagran Mancha, which has prominently raised the issue of Hindu persecution in Bangladesh.
