
Alappuzha, 01 May (H.S.): Two young people lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a lorry and a motorcycle at Vandanam in Alappuzha district late on Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as Akhil Krishna (22), a native of Arthunkal, and Achu S. Das (20), a resident of Cherthala. The accident occurred at around 11:50 pm when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a lorry.
According to preliminary reports, the mishap took place while the motorcycle was attempting to turn from the national highway onto a service road at Vandanam. During the manoeuvre, a lorry reportedly struck the bike, throwing both riders onto the road. In the impact, Achu fell onto the road, and the lorry ran over her head, killing her on the spot.
Akhil Krishna, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained critical injuries in the crash. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life.
Achu was a third-year nursing student in Marthandam. The duo were reportedly returning from Kayamkulam railway station, where Akhil had gone to pick up his friend and drop her home in Cherthala, when the fatal accident occurred.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details regarding the lorry driver and circumstances leading to the collision are being examined.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the local community, with relatives and residents mourning the untimely loss of two young lives.
