
Jorhat, 09 April (HS): Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, Lok Sabha MP and Congress candidate from Jorhat assembly constituency Gaurav Gogoi has cast his vote on Thursday in the ongoing Assam Assembly elections, expressing confidence that the state will witness a major political change.
Speaking to the media after voting, Gogoi said that it is an important day for Assam as people are stepping forward to make a decisive choice for the state’s future. He noted that the hope in people’s eyes, confidence in their voices and fearless expression of their thoughts indicate that a stronger and renewed Assam will emerge on May 4.
He further stated that voters are supporting the ideals of democracy and progress, adding that people are choosing a republican, democratic and empowered Assam. According to him, voters will stand for the state’s cultural, moral and democratic values. Prior to casting his vote, Gogoi paid floral tributes to his father and former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, remembering his contributions and legacy.
At the polling booth, his mother Dolly Gogoi expressed gratitude to voters and sought their blessings, while his aunt Lakhani Rani Gogoi conveyed hope for continued development in Assam and success for Gaurav Gogoi.
From the Jorhat constituency in Upper Assam, Gogoi is contesting against sitting BJP MLA and formal speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami, making it a high-profile contest.
Voting for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly is currently underway from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with counting scheduled for May 4. The Congress is contesting as part of a six-party alliance against the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is seeking a third consecutive term in power.----------
