Sonitpur (Assam), 09 April (HS): A polling officer deployed on election duty died after suddenly falling ill at a polling station in the Naduar assembly constituency of Sonitpur district during the ongoing Assam Assembly elections on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident took place at Polling Station No. 230 in the Satiyar Dalpani area under the 69 Naduar constituency at around 7:30 am. Second Polling Officer Deven Horo suddenly fell ill while on duty shortly after polling began.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, the assistant teacher from Rangapara succumbed on the way to the hospital.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have initiated necessary legal procedures in connection with the incident.

The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, though it is suspected that he may have suffered a heart attack.---------------
