Guwahati, 09 April (HS): Voting for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections 2026 is progressing steadily across all 126 constituencies spread over 35 districts, with a significant rise in voter turnout recorded by early afternoon.

According to data released by the Election Commission, the voter turnout reached 59.63% by 1 PM. Earlier in the day, polling had recorded 17.87% turnout by 9 AM, which rose to 38.92% by 11 AM, indicating a consistent increase in voter participation as the day progressed.

District-wise turnout figures show encouraging participation across the state. Bajali recorded 62.35%, Baksa 61.44%, Barpeta 60.66%, Biswanath 60.58% and Bongaigaon 62.30%. Cachar registered 58.01%, Charaideo 60.20%, Chirang 59.94% and Darrang reported one of the higher turnouts at 65.20%.

Dhemaji recorded 60.33%, Dhubri 63.07% and Dibrugarh 57.09%. Dima Hasao stood at 58.28% while Goalpara reported a strong turnout of 65.79%. Golaghat recorded 58.73% and Hailakandi 54.00%. Hojai registered 61.79% and Jorhat 58.34%.

Kamrup (Metro) reported comparatively lower turnout at 49.47%, while Kamrup district recorded 62.74%. Karbi Anglong stood at 50.85% and Kokrajhar at 59.58%. Lakhimpur recorded 61.04% and Majuli 65.39%. Morigaon reported 65.21% turnout.

Nagaon recorded 59.86%, Nalbari 59.05%, Sivasagar 58.61% and Sonitpur 59.56%. South Salmara Mankachar reported 65.93% turnout, while Sribhumi recorded 58.60%. Tamulpur stood at 56.81%, Tinsukia at 56.73%, Udalguri at 58.91% and West Karbi Anglong recorded 54.31%.

Polling continues peacefully in most parts, with authorities closely monitoring the process to ensure smooth and fair voting.----------
