Hooghly, 08 April (H.S.): A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker in Bandel area of West Bengal’s Hooghly district has alleged that his house and vehicle were targeted in a stone-pelting incident, even as the BJP denied the charges, calling them politically motivated.

The complainant, Pradeep Jha, a resident of the New Masjid area in Bandel, alleged that the incident took place late Tuesday night when his family members were asleep. He said he woke up around 2 am after hearing the sound of breaking glass and found window panes shattered, with pieces falling onto his bed.

Jha further alleged that stones were also hurled at his Scorpio vehicle parked outside the house. CCTV footage installed at the premises purportedly shows two individuals loitering in the area before pelting stones and fleeing, he claimed.

He said he could identify the alleged perpetrators and claimed they were associated with the BJP. He also alleged that there had been previous tensions between TMC and BJP supporters in the area and that the accused had links to criminal elements.

Jha has lodged a written complaint with the police and accused the BJP of sheltering those involved. He also expressed concern that such incidents could increase during the election period.

Rejecting the allegations, the BJP said the matter was a local dispute and accused the TMC of trying to give it a political colour.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident based on CCTV footage, officials said on Wednesday.
