New Delhi, 08 April (H.S.):
The Central Government will observe the 8th Nutrition Fortnight 2026 nationwide from April 9 to 23, themed Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life. The initiative aims to lay a strong foundation for children's holistic growth while advancing the 'Malnutrition-Free India' goal through heightened public awareness and community engagement.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development announced the national launch on April 9 at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, from 3-4 PM, led by Union Minister Annapurna Devi. State Minister Savitri Thakur and Secretary Anil Malik will also attend.
Minister Annapurna Devi shared on X that the event falls under Mission Poshan 2.0, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing nutrition and care in early years for children's bright futures.
Key Activities
Anganwadi centers nationwide will host activities involving mothers, families, and local bodies, including nutrition panchayats, awareness drives, early stimulation sessions, play-based learning, and healthy lifestyle programs. Outstanding state and UT initiatives will be showcased, with recognition for anganwadi workers. Live streaming will occur on NIC webcast and the ministry's YouTube channel.
The ministry noted that 85% of brain development occurs in a child's first six years, making the initial 1,000 days critical for nutrition, care, and learning. Focus areas include maternal and infant nutrition, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, responsive caregiving for 0-3-year-olds, and play-based education for 3-6-year-olds.
