CM
honored agricultural scientists in inaugural session of Science Cong
Lucknow,
April 8 (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Agriculture
Minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Wednesday inaugurated the three-day Agricultural
Science Congress-2026, organized by the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Research
Council (UPCAR) at the Sugarcane Research Institute. On this occasion, the
Chief Minister honoured outstanding scientists selected under the Uttar Pradesh
Agricultural Scientist Honour Scheme (2025-26).
Addressing
the Agricultural Science Congress, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the
Agricultural Science Congress will become the foundation of a developed Uttar
Pradesh and a developed India. He said that technology is essential, but there
is a need to work on how to achieve higher production with lower costs and
fewer resources. Now, we need to move forward in the direction of turning the
farm into a laboratory. Challenges will always arise. We must develop
indigenous methods.
If
the food provider is happy then the country and society will be happy. The
Chief Minister said that if the food provider is prosperous, the country and
society will be prosperous. The government has made agriculture and farming a
part of its agenda. Sugarcane farmers had dues for 10 years. Sugar mills were
closing down, today Uttar Pradesh alone produces 55 percent of the country's
sugar. 122 sugar mills are running in the state. There is no delay in payment of
sugarcane price. Sugarcane production has increased.
Yogi
Adityanath said that before 2014, farmers were committing suicide and
migrating. They were harassed. Farmers were an election issue at that time.
There was distrust in farmers' minds. Today, farmers are not committing
suicide. Farmers' income has increased manifold. There are policies in place
for everything from seeds to the sale of produce. Farmers are receiving support
in every way.
The
Chief Minister said that as part of a conspiracy, the self-reliant village unit
was dismantled. Previously, farmers weren't limited to farming alone. They were
also artisans. Our farmers were producers and entrepreneurs. The invaders
attacked India's entrepreneurship along with agriculture. Farmers who were once
producers were given the right to produce only raw materials. As a result,
farmers became destitute.
Yogi
said that earlier there was no electricity, no water, and seeds and fertilizers
were not available on time. Farmers were in a bad state. Today, their situation
has improved. The government is providing Rs. 1,500 per month for the
maintenance of each cow. Cow shelters should be linked to natural farming. The
Anna system has ended in Bundelkhand.
Minister
of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh, Chairman of Gau Seva Aayog Shyam
Bihari Gupta, Chairman of Upkar Captain (Retd.) Vikas Gupta, Director General
of ICRISAT Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Agriculture Production Commissioner Deepak
Kumar and Principal Secretary Agriculture Ravindra Kumar were present as
special guests in the inaugural session.
