Kolkata, 08 April (H.S.). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, accusing him of making statements inciting violence during the elections.
The complaint filed by the party states that at an election meeting held in Raina, West Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee allegedly used violent language against BJP workers, which is against the spirit of free and fair elections.
The complaint alleges that such comments not only increase tensions between political parties but also affect the electoral atmosphere. Calling it a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct, the BJP has sought immediate intervention of the Commission.
The BJP also said that as per the election rules, no candidate or party is allowed to use language that spreads hatred or incites violence. The party says such statements can affect the democratic process.
The complaint also referred to some past statements of Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that action has not been taken in such cases earlier as well.
The BJP has demanded that the Election Commission take cognizance of the matter and impose necessary monitoring and restrictions on the speeches of Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee so that the election process can be conducted peacefully.
The party said it is committed to a fair, peaceful and fearless election and expects strong action from the Commission in the same direction.
