Silchar (Assam), 06 April (HS): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday addressed a massive election rally in Silchar’s Borkhola, campaigning for Congress candidate Abhijit Paul. The senior Congress leader invoked former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, recalling her remark that Assam was once an “island of peace.”
Addressing the gathering, Kharge said that the situation in Assam has changed significantly over time. He alleged that the Barak Valley region has been neglected over the past ten years, raising concerns over stalled infrastructure projects and lack of development.
He pointed out that the Silchar flyover remains incomplete, while work on the Tarapur elevated corridor has also come to a halt. According to him, the delay in these projects has caused inconvenience to students, office-goers and patients.
Kharge further highlighted the recurring flood problems in nearby areas, stating that every year people suffer losses as homes are damaged and crops destroyed. He alleged that the BJP government has failed to provide a permanent solution to the flood crisis.
Appealing to voters, Kharge urged the public to ensure the victory of the Congress candidate in Silchar, emphasizing the need for change in governance in the region.----------
