5 April (HS): The Delhi Police's Special Cell has arrested a suspected
terrorist from Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district on suspicion of
participation in terror activities and brought him to the national capital,
authorities said on Sunday. According to Uttar Pradesh police, Rizwan Ahmad,
man from the Chhawani region of Padrauna town, was under investigation by the
Special Cell. A 10-person squad commanded by Inspector Nishant Dahiya arrived
in Padrauna late Saturday evening and apprehended Ahmad with the cooperation of
local police, according to a top UP Police officer. The Special Cell also took
his mobile phone, laptop, and other electronic equipment for inspection.
According
to Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, no charge has been filed against him
at the local level. However, information on his family members and
acquaintances is being gathered, and increased vigilance has been mandated
across the district. According to the UP Police, Ahmad traveled to Mumbai around
a decade ago in search of work; nevertheless, he was imprisoned in Mumbai from
2017 until 2023 when his name appeared in another terror-related case.
According to reports, explosives were reportedly discovered in his room at the
time, as well as phone records showing foreign connections and links to ISIS.
