Nagaon, 05 April (HS): Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika asserted that strong action would be ensured against loan sharks and drug traffickers in Nagaon. He was talking to media persons after a program in Nagaon last night. He urged voters to make the “right decision” in the ongoing election.
Addressing an election rally at Bhupen Hazarika Rangamanch in Uriagaon, Nagaon earlier, Hazarika campaigned in support of BJP candidate Rupak Sharma for the Nagaon-Batadroba constituency. He said that anti-social elements involved in usury and drug trade would not be allowed to resurface in the district.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Hazarika expressed doubts over the Congress party’s claim of winning 24 seats in the state. He also claimed that BJP candidate Sashikanta Das is certain to win from Raha, adding that the NDA alliance would secure all seats in central Assam.
The minister further stated that the people of Assam want Himanta Biswa Sarma to continue as Chief Minister and expressed confidence that he would return to power.
Later, while addressing another rally at Chaparmukh in Raha, Hazarika promised that if the BJP returns to power, ₹18,000 crore would be spent over the next five years to make Assam flood-free. He also assured construction of embankments across Raha constituency and said the government would prioritise irrigation from next year.
Criticising the Congress, he said voting for the party would be a “waste,” alleging that welfare schemes like Orunodoi would be discontinued if the Congress comes to power.
The rally witnessed the presence of over 10,000 people, with several members from different parties joining the BJP. Hazarika later attended another campaign meeting at Dakshinpat in Raha constituency.----------
