Thiruvananthapuram, 05 April (H.S.):The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated rainfall across Kerala on Sunday, with yellow alerts issued for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Malappuram districts. Authorities said the alert indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
According to the IMD, districts including Alappuzha and Ernakulam are also likely to receive light to moderate showers at isolated places. Heavy rainfall is defined as precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
The weather department has further warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph in isolated areas. Officials have urged the public to remain cautious, noting that lightning strikes can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening.
Meanwhile, the State continues to experience high summer temperatures, raising concerns over heat-related health risks. Authorities have advised people to take adequate precautions to avoid conditions such as sunstroke, heat exhaustion, and dehydration.
Residents have been urged to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when temperatures are typically at their peak. The use of umbrellas, hats, and protective footwear has been strongly recommended for those venturing outdoors.
Health experts also emphasize the importance of staying hydrated. People are advised to drink water regularly, even if they do not feel thirsty. Oral rehydration solutions (ORS), salted rice gruel, lemon water, buttermilk, and traditional drinks like sambaram can help maintain electrolyte balance.
At the same time, authorities have cautioned against consuming alcohol, carbonated beverages, tea, and coffee during daytime hours, as these may contribute to dehydration.
With fluctuating weather conditions, officials have called for heightened public awareness and preparedness to ensure safety.
