New Delhi, 05 April (H.S.):

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah extended greetings to maritime sector workers on National Maritime Day, praising their professional prowess, courage, and dedication as key drivers of India's progress.

In a message on X,Amit Shah saluted their indomitable courage, noting how they prioritize national interests in peace or crisis. The entire nation bows to their spirit of service and commitment, he wrote.

Amit Shah stressed maritime strength's centrality to economic growth, with sea routes fueling India's rising global trade footprint. Robust maritime infrastructure propels our economy forward, he affirmed.

Observed annually on April 5 since 1964, the day commemorates SS Loyalty's 1919 voyage from Mumbai to London—the genesis of modern Indian shipping. Today, ~90% of India's trade by volume and 70% by value sails these routes, backed by over 7,500 km coastline, 12 major ports, and 200 minor ones powering trade, logistics, and development.
