Hooghly, 05 April (H.S.): Tension gripped Joraghat area of Hooghly district’s Chuchura on Sunday following allegations that wall writings of the Bharatiya Janata Party were deliberately erased.
According to the BJP, campaign messages and artwork related to “Annapurna Bhandar Rs 3,000” were painted on a wall, which were allegedly covered with cement slurry in an attempt to remove them. Party workers staged a protest in the area over the incident.
BJP candidate Subir Nag visited the spot after learning about the matter. He said that political decorum must be maintained, warning that protests would intensify if such incidents continue. He also asserted that no BJP worker would engage in such acts and that the party does not erase wall writings of other political groups.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress councillor of Ward No. 20 in Chuchura municipality, Samir Sarkar, rejected the allegations. He claimed that several of their party’s flex banners had also been torn, but they did not blame anyone.
Sarkar further alleged that the incident could be the result of internal disputes among BJP workers themselves. The situation has led to a charged political atmosphere in the locality.
