
Jaunpur,
5 April (HS): Police teams from the Sarai Khawaja and Baksa police stations in
Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, arrested two arms smugglers after a shootout
late Saturday night. Both suspects were injured, while three other associates
remained at large.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Aatish Kumar Singh said on Sunday that under
the leadership of Circle Officer Sadar, Inspector in-charge Sarai Khwaja and
Station Head Buxar along with their team were checking suspicious vehicles near
the culvert on Chhabilepur-Chhuncha road. During this, when an attempt was made
to stop the criminals riding a motorcycle, they attacked the police team with
deadly weapons. In self-defense, the police retaliated, in which Khanpur
resident Gudluck Tiwari was shot in the right leg and Aahapur resident Shashank
Singh was shot in the left leg. Both were arrested on the spot, while their
three other companions escaped taking advantage of the darkness.
During
the search, the police recovered two pistols, cartridges, a bike, and Rs 1.25
lakh in cash from the accused. During interrogation, they revealed that they
were on their way to buy and sell illegal weapons. Police have registered a
case against both accused under relevant sections and have initiated further
legal action, while the search for the absconding accused continues.
