Charaideo (Assam), 05 April (HS): In a shocking incident of alleged election-related violence, a BJP worker was reportedly beaten to death with sticks in Assam’s Charaideo district as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Assembly elections.

According to reports on Sunday, the incident occurred while the victim, identified as Khudkan Bora, was engaged in election campaigning. It has been alleged that supporters of the Jai Bharat Party attacked Bora, leading to his death on the spot.

Sources further claimed that one Tileshwar Murmu, said to be a supporter of the Jai Bharat Party, has been accused of carrying out the assault. Following the incident, a tense atmosphere has gripped the Sonari constituency.

Reacting to the incident, Sonari MLA Dharmeswar Konwar termed the incident as “extremely unfortunate,” stating that a party worker was waylaid and beaten to death by a supporter of another political group. He added that such violence is unprecedented in the constituency and stressed that politics of violence is unacceptable in Assamese society.

Meanwhile, residents of the area have strongly condemned the incident, especially as it took place despite heightened police vigilance and checking in view of the elections. Police have reportedly arrested the prime accused and initiated further investigation, while locals have demanded the strictest punishment for those involved.-----------
