Hooghly, 28 April (H.S.): The alleged attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mitali Bag during the final day of campaigning in Arambagh has taken a dramatic turn following the police’s preliminary report.

According to the report submitted by the Superintendent of Police to the Election Commission on Monday evening, the incident was not the result of any external attack. Instead, the report suggests that it stemmed from internal factionalism within the Trinamool Congress. The incident has been described as a “staged event,” with officials stating that there was no pre-planned attack on Mitali Bag.

During the investigation, police arrested one individual who identified himself as a TMC worker. This development indicates possible involvement of party insiders in the incident.

Notably, on the final day of campaigning, BJP candidate Prashant Digar was traveling from Kantali to Kamarpukur. Allegedly, TMC workers attacked six BJP vehicles and engaged in stone-pelting. This led to retaliatory action from BJP supporters.

Amid the unrest, reports emerged of vandalism targeting Mitali Bag’s vehicle in the Goghat area. She was seen visibly distressed, sitting in her car and crying after the incident, and was later admitted to a hospital for treatment. The windows of her vehicle were found shattered.

Earlier, BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar had raised doubts about the incident, calling it suspicious. With the police report now surfacing, political tensions are expected to escalate further as the investigation continues.
